As much as I love this game, it is no where near perfect. If you are a fan of SNES-era RPGs, I would consider this a must-play, and almost certainly a must-own. If you are simply a fan of RPGs or the Final Fantasy series, I would recommend either of the two Nintendo-console remakes–Final Fantasy IV Advance for the GBA Advance or Final Fantasy IV DS for the NDS. Both games have superior translations as well as the readdition of items and spells which were removed from the game when it ported from the Super Famicom to the SNES. Their graphical styles are different, however, as well as their “bonus content” and difficulty (the GBA game feels easier than even the SNES version–largely due to the extra content–while the NDS game is harder than both).I heartily advise against the PSX version of the game, which has abominable load times and an unremarkable translation.
Awesome game
Final Fantasy II is among the Super Nintendo’s best games, and its 3rd best RPG, after its sequel, Final Fantasy III, and Square’s equally impressive Chrono Trigger. The graphics are a marked upgrade from its NES predecessor, and its storyline is among the best in the genre. The main protagonist, Cecil, a Dark Knight in the service of a king who has been taken over by some elusive, evil force must make the decision to find his own path, accompanied by the Dragoon Kain, when asked to do questionable things by his superiors. This takes him on an amazing adventure, and personal redemption, when he becomes a Paladin. An amazing cast of rich, develop characters make this a must play, for any gamer. A+
I love the game, it plays well. But you can’t turn off the power because the cartridge does not save the game.
Great item. True Final Fantasy!
This is the RPG that caused me to go out and get a Super NES console back in 1991 so I could play it. My brother had this game and gave it to me when he was done. I’ve been hooked ever since! Looking back, of course the graphics are definitely rather primitive compared to nowadays, but the music and storyline are compelling. I actually cared about these characters, Cecil, Rosa, Rydia, Kain and others. I’ve played this game from start to finish at least a half-dozen times since I first beat it, seeing how powerful I could get my characters, using the Game Genie to "cheat" and see how it would play differently. A great sentimental favorite.
This game was originally released in Japan as Final Fantasy IV. The name change reason was because no other Final Fantasy games to date had been released in the US. It was a tremendous success. And if you play it you will know why.A huge jump forward in game play, mechanics and story versus the original NES game. It follows the story of the dark knight Cecil and his journey for redemption and to protect the crystals of earth. The active time battle system was great and there were different techniques to defeat each boss. The storyline and extra elements (such as a few of the summon monsters) in the game really helped elevate it and added to the times you would replay it. Truly it has held up well on its own after all these years. Two thumbs up! I personally love this game. First Final Fantasy game I ever played. And my favorite RPG before it was Dragon Warrior. So this was a definite step in the right direction. I still own a copy. In the box too. A classic.
great game, kids love it, should have realized there wouldn’t be a book on how to work it though. found info seperately online, everything fine
i’m so glad the game works! didn’t come in the original box, but who can find those anymore anyways.
Although this game is called Final fantasy 2, in reality it is actually FF4! Anyway, I didnt start playing Final fantasy until just recently (2004)I’ve owned an NES since 1990 but I never even thought of buying Final Fantasy until I saw a TV show about it on G4TV! Since then, I’ve played all of the following Final fantasy titles; Final fantasy, Final fantasy II, Final fantasy mystic quest, Final fantasy VII, Final fantasy VIII, Final fantasy XI, Final fantasy I & II dawn of souls, and Final fantasy IV Advance. Out of all of them my favorite title was FFII for the SNES,why? Because FFII had the best story and charecters of all of the other Final fantasy titles that I’ve played so far! Unlike in FF1,you dont choose your players, you just start out as one and meet more from there! The Heros: Cecil the dark knight, Rosa the white mage, Kain the dragoon, Cid the Engineer, Yang the Monk, Rydia the summoner, tellah the sage, Edge the ninja, and Fusoya the sage. The Villans: Golbez the dark wizard, 4 Elemental warriors, a brain-washed Kain, and a slew of other enemys each more sinister then the last! The story gets better and better as the story progresses! I wont spoil it for you,but one of the coolest moments in the game is when Cecil discovers that Golbez, the most fearsom fiend in the game is not the one behind all of the chaos! Plus, Golbez’s true identity is revealed! (No, he’s not Cecil’s father.) All and all this is my favorite Final fantasy so far, I highly recomend buying it!.
