MtnDrew is who you need to buy from…enough said right there. I NEVER take the time to write these reviews but I was so pleased with his customer service that I decided to do it anyway.Knowing I was buying such an old gameboy I figured I would think ahead and buy all the extra stuff for it…things like a carrying case and a charger because I knew I would need them. I revived the item after only 2 days and when I opened the bag, I was very surprised. He took the time to include not only a nice carrying case but a charger too…and he packaged it all up nice and neat and the gameboy came fully charged. Most of these things seem simple and small, but they really meant a lot to me. Definitely recommend this shop for the outstanding level of service, no matter what you’re buying.
I got this thinking it was a replacement for the one I got for christmas. Turns out, what I got from my cousin this past christmas, was a GameBox. Read the details, and look for sites that sell that sort of stuff online. There are places that sell that kind of stuff as legitimately as possible online, so don’t lose home.As for this specific product, its gold, simply gold. I love it. I have a few Game Boy Advance, and other old school games, that I play on this thing. The Game Box is great, but having the legitimate version is good too. If anything else, for reliability and durability of legitimate products that other questionable stuff just may not have. I am gonna get the Pokemon: Red rescue team game just to use on here, since the GambeBox, well, it plays that game, but can’t save on it. Granted, I’m old enough to be from the gamer generations that played games like that, and left them idling/afk while we had other real life responsibilities to do, then come back and continue to play the game we were doing before responsibilies called. With that said, this, the legitimate version, works well. I just hope after hard grinding on some games, that it doesn’t break down on me. I tend to be the kind of guy that works a system to its limit, just through legitimate/standard means. Like for the GameBox, on the Pokemon red version, after my Golbat evolved from a Zubat, one or two levels later, that I leveled up in the same area, during the same game play time frame of 6 hours, Golbat.
The Gameboy Advance SP, model AGS-101, is the bridge between the retro and the requirements that we take for granted in modern consoles. The lithium battery that replaces the AA batteries and the back lighting of the screen make it a comfortable enough console to play all the titles that go from the first gameboy, gameboy color and gameboy advance. The downside of this console is that it has no entry for standard hearing aids, so it is necessary to purchase an adapter that is not worth more than one dollar, but that is still an unnecessary concern, for a console that has almost everything.
It works perfectly well! I had lost a previous gba because it was stolen and I didn’t want to spend the money GameStop was offering again so I looked online. It works great, however there are two major downsides.1. The charger that came with it, although it works, if you’re playing with it plugged in, it will still slowly lose battery. It’s not horrible but just keep that in mind.2. It came in looking pretty beat up. Honestly nothing horrible, it doesn’t hinder its playability at all. So if you’re that picky, then I guess it’s a bad thing.
Works phenomenally! Very few dead pixels, and they’re only noticeable if you look closely. The case is barely scratched and looks brand new. All buttons are in working order and it properly saves games. I never got to have one of these when I was a kid, and now I get to play my GameBoy games the way they were meant to be played!
First off, let me say this: I have only ever owned a Game Boy Color, and only yesterday, which was at the very beginning of 2013, I received this. It is a HUGE improvement over the Color, and yes, I know there was something in between. After shopping around here for months, I finally decided to get this for myself, because it had great customer reviews, and now, about 10 years after its initial release, it is much cheaper than most other systems, and it appears to be much more durable.I’m going to list the Pros and Cons of this device:Pros:Frontlit Screen enables for ease of Gameplay. Huge improvement. I can now play a game like Galaga, very dark background that elicited complaints from regular GBA players because they couldn’t see what was on the screenLaptop (clamshell) design: allows for easy storage, because it protects the inside from damage while shrinking it so it can fit in your pocket.Sound system: once again, a huge plus, because it is much louder than the Game Boy Color.Rechargeable battery: saves batteriesCons:Sound CONTROL: instead of a small wheel like the Game Boy Color, this has a Slide-thing. it is very small, so it really only has 3 settings: Silent, medium, and BLOW YOUR EARS OFF in comparison to the GBC.it is a slightly slippery surface, so if your hands get sweaty, it is hard to find a comfortable way to hold the system.Overall, I think this is a GREAT little system, I cannot believe they just left the Game Boy line of games to rot in a warehouse somewher.
Received my Gameboy ahead of schedule. It doesn’t have that many scratches on it, however the screen’s brightness is a bit dim on the upper left-hand corner of the display. The system speaker was intermittent at first, but with a thorough cleaning via a can of air, the speaker freed up and started playing audio normally. Once I put a game cart into the gba, the screen makes a 1 pixel wide vertical red line on the far right-hand side of the screen once it moves past the "Gameboy" bootup screen.Pros: Gameboy came in good physical conditionCons: Screen could have been better.P.S. shop was Gladiator Gamez.
Was hesitant to buy a gameboy on retrolio, feeling like I may get scammed or not a system in good condition. I was proved wrong with this shop and item. It said it was in “very good†condition, and that is truth. My gameboy advance sp was in great shape and fully functional. All my games work on it. No issues. And it was a decent price. Completely satisfied.
Works well but not an ags 101 model. I researched before buying and pearl blue was supposed to be specific to that model and for those who don’t know the ags 101 model has the better backlit screen vs the front light screen of the ags 001 model. I’m disappointed that this was not the better model since it should’ve been due to the color of the Gameboy but overall I’m still happy to purchased so I could relive a small part of my happy childhood memories
I purchased the Gameboy Advance SP a little while ago. I was feeling a bit nostalgic and then it hit me, like a shoe at a rooster, I was of my fence and on the ground. My first thought was, Ebay. I proceeded to type in Ebay(dot)com. At first the experience was great, but as I progressed my feelings deteriorated into pure hate. Ebay sucks! The interface, interactivity, and shop availability is shabby and poor. From there I went to google shop, but there were too many hits on Gameboy Advance. It wasnt helpful. Lastly, i was directed to retrolio. I absolutely love the interface and the myriad of options retrolio has. Its like this website is a junle somewhere in South America, and all the products are the many different organisms that inhabit it. Whatever the case I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I will definately be coming back to buy more products from retrolio.PS. Everyone should buy a Gameboy AdvanceSP
