Great game
Im a huge fan of the pc Battlefield series. A veteran of a tour in bf2, special forces, armored combat, 2142. I went into this game thinking that it would simply be a less buggy version of the pc game. I was quite wrong. The controls are decent, but you have to turn the sensitivity all the way up and it still turns about half the speed of a mouse, which results in slow paced, generally disorienting combat situations. And to highlight the slow pace, where is the sprint button!? No more running and jumping then going prone into a good firing position, the controls are way too slow for that. This feels more like the pc version on tranquilizers when it comes to the controls. Jump is not very responsive and you’ll have a hard time jumping over anything larger than your teamates corpse. No more squads either, the x-box live games do support enough players for small squads but the game does not offer the option. Too bad, I guess teamwork is out of the question. No commanders either. This puts you out on the battlefield as a lone soldier, there are definitely moments where you are with your teammates fighting against the enemy but at times its difficult to locate them and coordinate attacks. The voice chat is better on xbox than on the pc because you can speak to your entire team. Aside from all that, the game looks great, it just plays a little sluggish and the possibility for coordinated tactics is greatly decreased with the loss of squads and commanders.
Thank you!

I believe most of the reviews here have already said what needs to be said about this game. I’m only adding my $0.02 because there is a lot of false information in one of the reviews. You don’t have to like the game, in the least, but you should really learn more about the game before slamming it prematurely.Yeah, BridgeTooFar and Backstab are popular maps. And while their intense popularity has declined since BF2’s X360 launch, you will still run into those 2 maps more than most others…. unless you use the server filters EA provides in the game and just completely avoid those maps. You can select any gametype and map you want to play in BF2. Select CTF or Conquest mode, select the map you want to play, filter, select a server from the search results and go. And if you never want to play the same map twice in a row, just select a server with “all maps” as the map rotation method and not “vote”. Each and every game session will load up a new map and no one can vote for a specific map. And if the rotation comes around to a map you just can’t stand playing, just hop out, search again, and join another session. It’s just that easy. When you first start playing BF2 online, you are *not* playing against everyone else. You cannot play against those who has significantly ranked up until you rank up yourself. You start off playing against those at lower ranks and you will even be blocked from joining sessions your friends are in if they are ranked higher and you’re just sta.
I guess I’m giving this one star more because of my expectations than because of the quality of the game. After having owned and played Battlefield 3, I expected that the gameplay and controls of BF2 would be the same, and thus similar to COD and MOH titles. It turns out, the gameplay is very different – switching between characters seemingly at random, mid-fire fight. But more disappointingly, the controller layout is completely unlike other games (COD, MOH, even later Battlefield titles) and *can’t be changed*!!! This last point makes it unplayable for me. So, if you’re coming from older Battlefield titles to this one, and you like the gameplay and controls, you may like this game. But, if you’re like me, coming from COD, MOH, and newer Battlefield titles, you may want to steer clear of this one.
Battlefield 2:MC offers two very distinct types of gameplay: single-player offline and online multiplayer. The single-player campaign component comes across as very weak and the missions are very structured. There is very little room to deviate from the planned path, although the entire levels are wide open. Enemy AI ranges from insanely difficult to incredibly easy… sometimes both found on the same mission. This leads to a frustrating experience. To the game’s credit, there are dozens of medals and ranks you can earn by playing well. You can replay old levels anytime, ignoring objectives and going for medals/extras. This gives the game some good replayability if you can stomach the weak gameplay setup.Online, this game is fantastic. Like the solo campaign, online keeps record of your stats and achievements. If it is you penchant, you can go for online-only medals and keep your stats high enough to advance through the ranks all the way to 5-star general. Two modes can be played online. CTF (capture the flag) and Conquest. CTF is very fast-paced and reflexive. Conquest gives you much more room to work with and allows for so much more teamwork.Despite a few exploitable glitches and a tendency for servers to play the same handful of maps (although there are many different maps and they all play well), BF2:MC is an engrossing and thoroughly enjoyable online experience. The graphics and sound are perfect for online play. Neither detracts or distracts from the immersive gameplay, ye.
As D. Veracity “Mac Guy”‘s review already stated in August, BF2MC is no longer online.. the following is my review posted last week in a Battlefield forum:”Call me naive, but after hearing good things in this forum about epic maps on BF2: MC like “Bridge Too Far”, etc., I purchased a used copy of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat only to discover that online multiplayer is permanently disabled due to a termination of EA’s servers for that game mid- 2011.link:So yeah, even though BC and BC2 are still online, (I played them yesterday), Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is kaput/ never to be experienced again by anyone… ever.I’m not terribly upset, but feel let down. I will be the first to post this on retrolio.com reviews of said product… mainly because I really don’t want other fans of the series to get their hopes up like I did.~end of game~”
A great game, thousands of people are still playing online. Most online sessions have at least 20 people playing at one time and the battles are intense! I rarely notice any lag online and have never lost the connection. This game requires a lot of strategy, you really have to work as a team to get anywhere. The Xbox360 achievements are extremely challenging to get but really inspire you to play the game better. To get them all you have to master every soldier class and vehicle. The achievements are split fairly evenly between multiplayer and single player modes. The single player mode is alright but you’ll probably spend most (if not all) of your time playing over Xbox Live. This is my favourite Xbox360 game and I highly recommend buying it if you’re up for a challenge.
Look, I like first person shooters and pride myself in having played most of the great games on all systems. But this game is one that some how was overlooked by me and a number of my gamer friends. I just bought this game for the x360 and it’s insane action. I’m only 4 levels deep on the campaigne mode and have heard that the online play is sick. Just for this game i have decided to get my broadband internet hooked up again. If you liked “Black”, “Killzone”, “Ghost Recon”, you’re going to like this game.
