I enjoyed the blend of fictional characters in the arc of historical events. It is a good read and looking forward to Part 2.
Even knowing the outcome, this is a good series. A few goofs on Submarine lingo, never ever say “fire†unless there are flames. Proper term is “shootâ€. Stern tubes don’t have torpedoes they have propeller shafts. Torpedos are in the after tubes. Bubble heads know this. Targets don’t ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Interesting characters and lots of action. Fairly accurate accounts of some naval action in the Pacific during WWII but authors need to take some time to learn roles of enlisted naval ratings. A Quartermaster does not man torpedo tubes, a Yeoman does not man the helm during general quarters. Ruins a good read.
I AGREE with other reviewers that the novel is full of technical errors. It even has my personal favorite error of Naval personnel saluting INDOORS. The USN only salutes under cover (wearing their hats) and USN regulations states the cover is removed indoors. However, if one is willing to over look these errors and accept names of ships and personnel this can be a very enjoyable read. The action is quick paced (almost too fast) and keeping track of who was dating who, who was fighting where at times was challenging. It was different enough that I read it straight through.
This is sort of a romance novel for men who like WWII stories. Many of the details of operations are right but all of the names are factionalized and so are most of the places. It’s a good read, fast. Too much emphasis on romantic relationships.
naval-history, historical-novel, historical-places-events, historical-research, thriller, WW2*****The naval history is very well done, but I would have preferred a little less emphasis on the bedhopping that happens when men are so distanced from their families (but without erotica). All of the scenarios onboard the ships, the ethnic rivalries, and of course the dangers and horrors of war all ring true. In spite of my personal views I really liked the book and read it in one stay-at-home day.I requested and received a free ebook copy from Sapere Books via NetGalley.
I loved it and put my order in for the final two, can not wait for them, author does not hold back and brings war to you colse up.
This is an action packed book about the Pacific naval battles of World War Two. I thoroughly enjoyed following the plot from pre Pearl Harbor through the attacks moving east. The characters were all well developed. The plot was interesting and fast paced.
A very well written book that is hard to put down. A lot of thrilling action as well as personal events which affect the lives of the service member and families and friends of the service community
Sticks to historical timelines and outcomes. The good part is between the outcomes and how individually things come together and how war affects people. Not for the younger readers – a little erotic in places.
