My entire life I’ve looking for games that were in the style of the classic 80’s film Tron. I have a burning passion for games that have simple, high resolution graphics (I just happen to love the style). I got this game on the cheap as part of my efforts to find good old games that I have never played.I powered it up and was instantly in love! Simple, fast, smooth graphics and controls. Ultra-responsive. Easy to learn. You’re driving around a tank blasting at baddies and navigating a maze to find the exit. What could be simpler?The real reason to own this game is how incredibly fun it is. I don’t know why, but the early developers for the 32 bit era seemed to be much more in tune with what made a game fun. I’ve played plenty of late-PSX-era games that were garbage, but it’s simple games like this that I enjoy enormously and could go on playing forever.It’s a little annoying and kind of hilarious that you need to use a password to save instead of a memory card ( a common complaint with many of the otherwise extremely fun and well made PSX games), but other than that, this game is a steal! Just don’t expect anything other than early 90’s graphics for the 3D. Personally, I love it!
Ahh…the memories. I remember this being one of the first 3D games I ever played back in 95′-96′ on the PC. Then to find its on PSX too I just knew I had to add it to my collection!! There isn’t too many great tank games out there besides Steel Reign that I can think of, but Assault Rigs is pretty sweet. The graphics are not the greatest but its gameplay that I judge my games on, the soundtrack to the game is also great…enough for me to wish there was a soundtrack cd to buy! The controls are pretty easy to learn(harder on the PC)with the PSX controller than the keyboard. There is about 30-50 levels in the game and they get harder and longer as you progress through the game. There is about 9-12 tanks to choose from as you progress too, each with different speed and armor ratings. There is alot of weapons too like miniguns, missle launchers, cannons, plus others. All in all if you like tanks and old school games you should check this game out!!!
