I’ve never played any of the Gothic franchise on PC, but I’ve always heard people rave about how great the games were and about how open-ended and immersive they were. The most open-ended and immersive game I’ve ever played on a console was Oblivion and I loved it (still do from time to time), so I was curious when I heard that this was coming to the Xbox 360.Now, from what I understand, this game takes a step away from the previous games in the franchise in order to, 1.) Appeal to a wider range of players than just the ‘hardcore’ ones devoted to Gothic and its particular quirks and, 2.) Give a company other than Piranha Bytes a chance to show what it can do with the Gothic title. Piranha Bytes took their original concept, tinkered with it a little bit and came up with Risen (itself an excellent game) and I’ve read that THAT one is almost exactly in the same vein as the original Gothic, albeit optimized for the console systems. Playing both, I can tell you there is a huge difference between these two.I can see many players of Gothic dissing this game for taking such a departure from the originals and I can understand their point; if something’s not broke, don’t fix it. Still if you take this game and judge it on it’s own merits (and I think that’s what Jowood was trying to do by listing the main title here as ‘Arcania: Gothic 4’ instead of being JUST ‘Gothic 4’), it’s really not a bad one at all if you’re the type that enjoys western-style fantasy roleplaying games.GAMEPL.
It was a gift and they loved it!!!! Would buy from again!!! Will enjoy hours of play from the game.
this is a nice simple rpg game, that has possibility to expand to better itself. i recommend it. the game require more flexibility.
Gothic 4 is an entertaining medieval fantasy RPG. The world graphics and indeed the animations are top notch except when it comes to characters having a conversation, this is probably where the game looks it’s most amateur. Overall it’s a good game not as good in my opinion as elder scrolls, dark souls or dragons dogma but the game is certainly better than any other medieval RPG not mentioned above. The game is technically open world albeit areas have to be unlocked via quests. The combat can be a tad simplistic but serves its purpose and is very effective at switching weapons quickly. The beginning of the game and the first area (the island) is rather tedious, but after escaping the beginning area the game quickly transforms from annoying to fun. All in all there is nothing wrong with this game, but there are things that could have been better. If you are looking for a medieval RPG and you have already played elder scrolls, and dragons dogma then this is the next best game. I recommend giving it a try!
I normally don’t write reviews about games, but seeing all the negative reviews on retrolio and elsewhere, i wanted to say something.First off, STOP comparing this game and all other rpg swordplay games to Oblivion! Yes, compared to oblivion, this game sucks balls. But, this game isn’t oblivion. Accept that and you will begin to like this game. The GOOD:Nice Difficulty Range: This game has a nice difficulty range, meaning that both an uncoordinated newb can play it as well as any rpg legend and still have a nice challenge. I started out on normal and found that it was too easy. Enemies attacked too slowly and seemed like they had to think about whether or not they wanted to swing at me. After i switched to hard, things started to heat up. Enemies attacked more ferociously and when they got near death began doing their special attack non-stop. An enemies special attack is indicated by a flash of light right before they attack with it and is unblockable. That combined with the hard difficulty meant me having to diveroll out of the way A LOT. I actually enjoyed the change of pace. Dodging out of the way of a potentially deadly attack and then striking back before your opponent can recover and killing them is highly satisfying. I might try the game again on Gothic difficulty once i beat it, which at the moment seems like it would be impossible.Plenty of Weapons and Items: Like most rpg’s, there are a lot of weapons and items to gather and use. There are two-handed weapons that deal.
The story line leaves alot to be wanted but, the game itself is fun, challenging and large. Lots of playable quests and hours of enjoyment!

This is one great game, end was a bit disappointing… but the story is great! and that for me is the key
great game
i actually love the game.. im a big fan of rpg’s when u add an open world makes it better. all & all i’d say get it.. its basically skyrim on an older engine. i mean u pretty much do the same things, only real difference is its old school gaming.
