Blast aliens, save people, and warp to another world! What’s not to like about Defender?!
Excellent product and service. A real classic atari game very happy to have this one.. thank you.
Perfect
pleased wit it all
I had a lot of fun with this game attacking aliens.
What more could I want. This was shipped out fast and arrived in good condition. It was exactly as described, works great and is still just as fun to play.
Very fun
i remember when i bought a dreamcast one of the first games i purchased for it was a game that had all the old classics like defender.problem was it was terrible it was nothing like the atari version it was much harder for one.and it wasn’t even close to feeling like the old defender.it looked good but looks dont mean a better game.its a shame that even with todays technology they couldnt make a better version defender game than an old atari game.this is still the best version to play.i’m not sure if anyone else has tried to make this game besides dreamcast.
Defender, back in the day this was one of the hottest titles in the arcades..i remember people actually lined up to play this one..i myself included:) when the atari 2600 version was released..you could now experience all of the action at home…without all the people watching you play.. and the usual..”are you almost finished?” which usually followed by somebody plunking a quarter down as your still playing.. the home port for the 2600..has all the action…the frantic gameplay.. a shooters gem ! everything you need… sure, the graphics are a dinosaur compared to the systems of today..but then again most of the EARLY arcade games wernt all that graphic intensive either..so it all works out on this one.there was also a port for the 5200..which was a bit better…but somehow didnt flow as well.. Bottom line, if your a retro gamer or collector Atari’s Defender should be in it..
Defender is a bi-directional scrolling shooter. You can scroll the screen left or right, and fly in either direction. The object of the game is to prevent aliens from abducting humans. However once the grab one, all is not lost. You can still shoot down that alien before they leave orbit, then pick up the human as it plummets to the ground, and return it safely. This takes a bit of fancy flying to achieve, but it one of the more rewarding parts of the game.Failure to save the humans results in the destruction of the planet! However, this is not game over. Once this happens you can battle enemies in deep space for a few levels, at which point the Earth magically reappears and the process resets. Wait, what? Just play along.Fans of the arcade game will remember how many buttons that had. Since 2600 controllers only have one button, some gameplay changes have been made to accommodate this. For example, to use smart bombs fly below the city and fire. Flying low also makes you immune to enemies, which is very important once the difficulty increases and especially during the space battles.Graphics are decent, however there’s a lot of sprite flicker. You’ll also notice that your ship disappears when shooting. This is not just a graphical effect, as you are actually immune to damage while your ship is firing. It almost looks like you’re not so much shooting things, but jumping into hyperspace and ramming them. With all that in mind, here we have the original Grand Theft A.
