This takes all that you’d love from adventure island and adds a super Mario world twist. You can actually replay previous stages to grind for gear and dinosaur mounts. Buy it. You will not be sorry if you’re a fan of the franchise
When it comes to old-school, side scrolling adventure games Hudson Soft’s classic Adventure Island series is a franchise you don’t hear about too much about these days. In a certain sense this is understandable given how basic the games were compared to the likes of Mega Man or even Castlevania, but when you’re honest about it the franchise really didn’t do itself too many favors with the rather cutthroat design of the first few games when it came to helping the player progress through the game. To this day I still can’t make a decent dent in Adventure Island II for the original Nintendo before the lack of a good continue or password option makes me start from scratch every time I lose all my lives.Based off of Adventure Island III for the NES, Adventure Island II: Aliens in Paradise thankfully dodges these archaic issues by having a password system AND a player friendly continue system. Even after you’ve exhausted your pool of lives the game doesn’t push you back like the first two games on the Nintendo which, as you can imagine, makes a world a difference. It’s true that this doesn’t do anything to address that fact that the franchise’s gameplay isn’t very robust, but at least it doesn’t feel like the game is pounding your face into the ground with penalties that really only existed (and that the industry has thankfully forgotten) to make games last longer than they otherwise would.Because Aliens in Paradise is so friendly in this area this makes it an excellent game to int.
This game has a save option but it doesn’t save.
