Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 is a lovely addition to the GameBoy Advance classics. The game itself is colorful, cute, and imaginative. While controlling Yoshi, the cute species of dinosaur living upon Yoshi’s Island, you struggle to deliver an infant Mario to his brother at Bowser’s castle using a relay system of Yoshi. Battle creative enemies, solve challenging puzzles and use your special Yoshi abilities to overcome obstacles. This game is a magical addition to any collection.
I’ve found this game comparable to Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES: while the gameplay in the sequel is basically similar to the gameplay in the previous game, there are so many new features, and especially such a different, strange new world, that the second game feels nothing like the first. And, of course, SMB2 and Yoshi’s Island are both much better than SMB and Super Mario World, respectively; the latter two games are vastly overrated. SMB was a wonderful herald of a new generation of platform games (Pitfall was the prototype in this genre, so SMB wasn’t entirely original, but it was definitely far, far more advanced than Pitfall), but by itself it wasn’t a very good game. The graphics were poor, even for the NES, and the game was laughably easy to beat. Super Mario World was also rather easy, and felt like nothing more than a remake of SMB3.But I digress. Yoshi’s Island is an excellent game, far better than any Mario game before it, certainly, though it plays completely differently from its predecessors. I can only express disgust, real, honest-to-goodness disgust, at the reviewers who complain that this game is too difficult; I see now why most new games are so easy to beat and will barely amuse a competent gamer for more than a week. I for one am tired of games that can be beaten in a few hours and Yoshi’s Island provides a challenge sorely lacking in games today.Good game, good challenge, and the GBA version plays very well. Fortunately not dumbed-down for the masses.
I love this game. It is a perfect remake of the classic game and is packed with fun for everyone. I recomend this game to anyone looking for a great game to play. Also included are all new bonus levels, as well as the single and multiplayer Mario Classic games.
I received this game for a long vacation To San Francisco. It will give you something to do, as said on the other review below about playing it on the train ride. I got it shortly before I left for the Kansas City Airport. I immediatly became immersed into to the Mario World. The game’s plot is about the early ages of the Mario World. It starts off telling the story about how Mario and Luigi were seperated as babies when Kamek attacked the stork that was carrying the brothers( you can skip to the start menu if you have already watched the story )(when playing the game). It tells how the Yoshi’s devised a plan to reunite the two brothers. Long story, but anyways, The game is very fun and will last along time from all of the different and exciting levels there are. There are 6 worlds and 2 Bosses per world. The bosses are pretty easy, Bowser is a bit difficult though. The graphics are very well illustrated and tweaked to fit the GBA world, but are very well preserved to the original SNES version. The plot is very good, the levels colorful and original, and fun and classic characters. The game is like a relay for the 45+ Yoshi’s in this game. Each level you control a different Yoshi. The Controls are pretty easy , you get the hang of them pretty quickly. Every time you are hit by an enemy, Baby Mario floats off your back and you have to retrieve him by touching the bubble or hiting it with an egg in the given amount of “baby mario time”. The enemies include all the classics like.
Fun game! Yoshi’s Island is very nostalgic and I had a fun time playing through the levels!
That is one of the greatest vgames ever made, why? because for the gameplay and the replay value.I purchased this to my girlfriend who love mario games. She has never played the SNES version and instantly felt in love with this gem.A must have for anyone who likes Mario vgames!
