After receiving this product several days ago I have been using it on a daily basis and have already completed several short novels.I’m very pleased with it and I am someone who likes to do a lot of research before I make purchases. I own a ds lite and the text is quite readable even with the small font without eye strain. You will be flipping through many pages but this is accomplished with ease with either a button, the stylus or even the touch of a finger. The ds also makes this title perfect for night reading, which is my preferred method. With 100 (technically 110 if you download the 10 extra ones) books to choose from the selection features many classic novels from American, English and other authors from all over the world. This should keep me busy for a while but then hopefully they’ll put out new books or make a sequel. While doing research I believe the list differs a bit from the American and English version, the English version seems to have more Shakespeare, and more books by English authors while I feel the American version holds more variety. There are a wide variety of types of novels to read and the book guide can help you pick if you are unsure, and if you don’t like what it picks you can just re-do it to suit your tastes. You can also pick books based off of the rankings of other people and add your rankings after you complete a novel, but you can’t review the bonus 10 downloadble books.100 classic books was an ideal title for me as I like to read and.
Love it! I picked Wilkie Collins’ Moonstone for my first read. It’s easy to use and to find the book you would be most interested in reading. The only drawback I have found is the bookmark feature- you can’t bookmark more than one book at a time.
Hi -this game chip is great if you have a child who loves to read. My daughter has been at it since the moment I handed it over to her. However, the book selection is a bit uptight. There are many, many classic stories which are wonderful. However, it would have been better if they had consulted a librarian to help with the selection. There are many well written kids books that would have made this much more inviting for kids. I highly recommend it. I gave it as a gift and my friend smirked at it stating that none of the books were going to interest her daughter, but much to our surprise her 9 yr old daughter read Jane Eyre the minute we gave it to her.
you can take a ton of books with you where ever you go and save the space. This game has The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula and many other books its also nice if you have to read one of the books for a class don’t be surprised the book just might be on this game. Also nice if you have to do a book report and the DS is right there plug in this game and start reading.
I thought it would be nice to have while traveling!
Just received this yesterday. For just $20 you get a lot of bang for your buck. At first, I was worried that the font might be too small, since I have a DS Lite. Ends up that even the smaller font was easy to read. You can also trade up to a larger font. A book like The Wizard of Oz takes over 700 pages (small pages) to read on the DS Lite, to give you an idea of size. I have also already downloaded an additional title, although, I must admit, I had to get my husband to plug in all the wireless info (IP address, SID, etc.) before it would work. The only issue I have, and others have mentioned it, is that you can only bookmark one book at a time. I do hope that in the future Nintendo creates a version where you can bookmark multiple books. If you want to keep track of what page you are on manually–little slip of paper tucked into your DS case–you can read more than one selection, of course. For me, page turning is easier if I just push the arrow key below the screen. You can also flip using the stylus. Either way is fine, but you can really flip through quickly with the arrow keys.I really am glad I stumbled across this product. I love that I can read anywhere I am, as long as I pack my DS Lite in my purse. If you love the classics, or want to start reading them, this is a great product. THe best part is that you save space on your bookshelf for your contemporary novels. War and Peace alone would take up the space of several mysteries. Now, it fits in a cartridge the size of.
It’s really quite amazing to be able to put 100 classic books into a game cartridge and then be able to access on DS anywhere you may be. Unfortunately, my 7 year old son who owns the DS, doesn’t agree. I think he is a little young to read a book without lots of pictures. So perhaps in a year or two we will try again. We may have to get a DS for the adults to read with in the meantime.
Ever since i started gaming, i have neglected to read as much as i used to. This DS title changed everything. I am now reading quite a bit and, in fact, am enjoying some of the books i used to hate when i had to read them during literature classes back in HS. Somehow, reading it on a handheld console makes it more “fun”.I am enjoying it so much that i purchased a similar title from retrolio’s UK site as it featured some books that are not available in the US title. For those who are looking to brush up on their second (or third) language, retrolio’s DE and FR sites have a similar DS title with 100 books in their native language. If you are fluent in all 3 featured languages and bought every title in this 100 classic books series, that’s almost like hauling 300+ books in your backpack without all that extra weight. I do hope they will release this title in Italian as well, if they haven’t already done so.Reading is fairly easy on the DS Lite and the controls are simple. I can turn the pages of the book that i am reading with one hand while feeding myself with the other. While others have complained about having to turn the page after reading a few sentences, i have no problems with it. Being glued to the story plot in the book made such hassles a minor detail. No extra lighting is needed and i can comfortably read while in bed and under the covers. This is an excellent collection for bookworms to have. Would be great if they can come up with another 100 books in the near future. I w.
GET THIS “GAME”! IT ROCKS! All the books you get and the downloaded ones you get also man what a great variety and it helps you choose what type of book you want to read if you arent sure. This thing just rocks. Easy to read and has different background music you get to choose that is actually relaxing to and enjoying to listen to while reading. or you can choose none.Just get it.
I just bought this “game” an hour ago. I paid $15 at Best Buy – not sure why the price is so high here on retrolio. I can’t give a good review until I’ve begun my reading, but I will say that so far (from a quick look at the books included), I’m very happy with my purchase. There are several classic novels here I’ve been meaning to read for years, but never got around to. Now that I’ll have them all with me in my handy-dandy DS, I’m bound to get around to all of them soon!
