I love this game! Kindle before there was Kindle. There are so many that I haven’t read. Can’t wait to get started. The only drawback was that I have the newer version of the Nintendo DS. So it’s been hard to have to lay it sideways. Would recommend to all book lovers!
My 9-yr old daughter was looking to buy another DS game for the Summer when she saw this “100 Classic Books” and wanted it immediately. Ever since our purchase, every time I look in on her she is quietly reading and enjoying the soothing music in the background. She even turned off the TV! What a great Summer gift for those who sincerely enjoy reading. My only legitimate concern at this time is the Romance Novels…
Ever since i started gaming, i have neglected to read as much as i used to. This DS title changed everything. I am now reading quite a bit and, in fact, am enjoying some of the books i used to hate when i had to read them during literature classes back in HS. Somehow, reading it on a handheld console makes it more “fun”.I am enjoying it so much that i purchased a similar title from retrolio’s UK site as it featured some books that are not available in the US title. For those who are looking to brush up on their second (or third) language, retrolio’s DE and FR sites have a similar DS title with 100 books in their native language. If you are fluent in all 3 featured languages and bought every title in this 100 classic books series, that’s almost like hauling 300+ books in your backpack without all that extra weight. I do hope they will release this title in Italian as well, if they haven’t already done so.Reading is fairly easy on the DS Lite and the controls are simple. I can turn the pages of the book that i am reading with one hand while feeding myself with the other. While others have complained about having to turn the page after reading a few sentences, i have no problems with it. Being glued to the story plot in the book made such hassles a minor detail. No extra lighting is needed and i can comfortably read while in bed and under the covers. This is an excellent collection for bookworms to have. Would be great if they can come up with another 100 books in the near future. I w.
I have owned this product for the last few weeks. I absolutely love it. I was skeptical at first due to the size of the DS screen. I have read four novels and am on my fifth at the time of this review and I have to say that this is the perfect item for me. It’s easier to read that I thought. The pages flow by rather quickly. I also like being able to rate my book. I have a life style that has plenty of time to read, and also just 10 minutes here and there. Having this in my purse,or pocket, has been extremely invaluable. I can’t stand boredom. I have shown it to several of my friends and acquaintances and they have all agreed, upon inspection, to approve the product. Well done to whoever came up with this idea. One flaw(mine) – I have to remember to charge my batteries!
I thought it would be nice to have while traveling!
I bought this over a year ago in a London airport. Glad to see it has finally hit the home market. I travel extensively abroad and love having books as well as games in my purse at all times. On those trips where having access to electricity will be limited and I don’t want to pack a reading light, I can even leave my Kindle at home. The collection is well chosen and offers enjoyable reading for my middle school children too. The convenience makes it well worth the price.
Great idea to get your kids to read while playing their DS!
I had bought a copy of this at a popular video game retailer after having added it to my cart here. I love to read, and had wanted to collect a lot of the classic works of literature. I started on that project a couple of years ago, but stopped due to financial purposes.Imagine my surprise when I found this game (if you want to call it that) while browsing for other puzzle and casual games (Tetris, Bejeweled, Mahjongg, etc.) for the Nintendo DS. After I added it to my cart, I decided to go to a retailer for some other games, and found this one available. I decided to go ahead an snatch it up there.I found the user interface to be very easy. You can browse through all of the titles, scrolling back and forth until you find one that suits your fancy. You can also sort the titles based on genre, author, reading level, or for the more indecisive, take a short “quiz” to help you find the right book for the mood you’re currently in. The music is very relaxing, and doesn’t interfere with your reading. If you have to stop reading, you can place a bookmark, turn the system off, and remove the cartridge if you wish to play a game. All data will be saved on the cartridge. If you return to the game, you will be asked if you wish to continue where you left off.The biggest disadvantage I found to the game has already been mentioned: whether on the DS, DSi Lite, or DSi XL, the screen will only display a few sentences at a time. With the DSi XL, both screens will display the book,.
Love it! I picked Wilkie Collins’ Moonstone for my first read. It’s easy to use and to find the book you would be most interested in reading. The only drawback I have found is the bookmark feature- you can’t bookmark more than one book at a time.
Just received this yesterday. For just $20 you get a lot of bang for your buck. At first, I was worried that the font might be too small, since I have a DS Lite. Ends up that even the smaller font was easy to read. You can also trade up to a larger font. A book like The Wizard of Oz takes over 700 pages (small pages) to read on the DS Lite, to give you an idea of size. I have also already downloaded an additional title, although, I must admit, I had to get my husband to plug in all the wireless info (IP address, SID, etc.) before it would work. The only issue I have, and others have mentioned it, is that you can only bookmark one book at a time. I do hope that in the future Nintendo creates a version where you can bookmark multiple books. If you want to keep track of what page you are on manually–little slip of paper tucked into your DS case–you can read more than one selection, of course. For me, page turning is easier if I just push the arrow key below the screen. You can also flip using the stylus. Either way is fine, but you can really flip through quickly with the arrow keys.I really am glad I stumbled across this product. I love that I can read anywhere I am, as long as I pack my DS Lite in my purse. If you love the classics, or want to start reading them, this is a great product. THe best part is that you save space on your bookshelf for your contemporary novels. War and Peace alone would take up the space of several mysteries. Now, it fits in a cartridge the size of.
